Our Mission
our mission is to ensure that every young person in danger of leaving foster care without achieving their permanency goal has the support they need to transition to adulthood and become a part of society.
The statistics and data in our annual reports reveal some depressing facts: the chances of a kid in out-of-home care growing up in a permanent home become increasingly high each passing year and are almost non-existent five years after the child is removed from the family.
As a result, hundreds of teenagers in New Jersey leave foster care each year when they turn 18. Without the support of family and community, they are at considerably higher risk of homelessness and human trafficking than the general population. "Youth who are coming of age has a lot of potentials, but without the correct support, many of them end up homeless, entangled in the criminal justice system, and have poor educational and job prospects," says the report.
