In Loving Memory of
Verna Mae Styles

The Idea of creating Styles House came from me watching my grandmother care for not just her grandchildren and family but the community she loved and served.

Styles House was founded in 2018 by Monique and Leslie C. Wilson.

Monique who was born in Brooklyn and spent her formative years in the Bronx, is the oldest of 10 siblings. Growing up Monique helped her mother raise her siblings and realized early on that she loved helping others reach their full potential. She also witnessed her grandmother, who passed away in 2017 at the age of 90 take care of their  family, the church family and the community. She vowed to keep her grandmothers legacy alive by doing her part to help this generation of children. Clearly Monique  embodies the spirit of both of these strong influential women.

Leslie C. Wilson, born in Bronx, NY, but raised in Harlem with his grandparents experienced his grandparents allowing all the neighborhood friends and family to have a safe home to stay. They treated everyone with respect and love. Leslie’s motivation to help expanded when he met Monique and together they made the decision to become foster parents. The pair married in 2019 and soon after Styles house became a reality.

They both share a vision of helping our youth.

Both Monique and Leslie are loving parents, professionals in their areas of employment and foster parents to the youth of New Jersey.

Styles House was created by Monique and Leslie’s overwhelming concern that no matter how many teens they’ve fostered, it was never enough.

Our goal in life is to help these teens before they are released from the system at the age of eighteen. These kids are placed in so many homes they don’t know who to trust, they don’t know why they should do better because nobody is taking the chance to help them become better.

We want them to be the “BEST VERSION OF THEMSELVES” - Leslie C. Wilson

Every night thousands of teens can't curl up in warm beds. Instead they curl up on cold sidewalks, abandoned houses, subways, dark alleys and in abandoned cars. These children didn't choose to be homeless. They were made homeless. Cast onto the streets… not by negligent parents, but by a few senseless laws… Styles House mission picks up where the laws fall short.
